Reconstruction of a Water-to-Land Mass Shooting

Oral Presentation (25 minutes)

1:00 PM

In September of 2025, a mass shooting incident took place on the Intercoastal Waterway on the coast of North Carolina resulting in the deaths of three people and the injury of six others. The victims were all patrons of a waterfront bar with an elevated deck. The shots were fired by a suspect who was on a boat on the ICW. A full shooting reconstruction of this incident was performed.

This reconstruction provided many challenges since the shooting location was on the water but the targets were on a stable deck as well as environmental factors. Ultimately through mathematical calculations, the shooting location of the suspect was determined.

This investigation has not been adjudicated in court. Therefore, names of victims, suspects, and the specific location as well as investigatory details will be omitted from this presentation.
