Columbine Scenes: Looking Back, Looking Now, Looking Forward

Keynote

Walnut / The Mall

February 27, 2026

8:00 AM

“Columbine.” That is one word that has cemented itself into not only the United States lexicon, but probably in other languages as well. It was the afternoon of April 20, 1999, when news of the shooting at Columbine High School became the focus of both the news media and law enforcement. The original reports included over a dozen deceased and dozens of injured persons. While there were mass shootings, including schools, before Columbine, it continues to be referred to when another school shooting occurs. Friday’s presentation will include an overview of the pre-processing approach; aspects and techniques of processing and exchange of information; and decisions involving the scenes’ reports. That will couple with how the scenes (there were many scenes within the entire scene) might be processed now given the technologies and capabilities available now. We will also look at other changes that have come about since Columbine, some of which aren’t technological in nature, as well as some that have a direct connection to ACSR!

No video or audio recording will be allowed during this presentation.
