Mr. Vega is a Forensic Engineer with JS Forensics Consulting for the Illinois based office. He is a licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer, an ACTAR accredited accident reconstructionist, a certified FAA UAV Pilot, and an Associate Member of the Audio Engineering Society. Mr. Vega has been working in failure analysis and accident reconstruction since 1998 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Illinois University. Mr. Vega has extensive experience investigating accidents involving commercial and passenger vehicles, motorcycles, pedestrians, and farm equipment collisions. He has used forensic audio/video analysis,PhotoModeler, PC-Crash, and 3DS Max in forensics reconstructions. The first audio related SAE publication by the team at JS Forensics Consulting was a method for calculating the vehicle speed using the wheelbase of the test vehicle recorded by dash camera audio. The second audio related SAE publication was a joint research effort between JS Forensics Consulting and Anthony Cornetto of Momenta LLC which resulted in the development of an equation to determine vehicle speed using the frequency generated by the rotating tires of passenger vehicles recorded by dash camera audio. The current research study includes the validation and publication of rotating tires of commercial vehicles. Mr. Vega is currently doing research on audio analysis of firearm discharges recorded by officer body cameras with Eugen Liscio, research audio analysis of motorcycles tires with Lou Peck of JS Forensic, research audio analysis of multiple vehicle staged collisions conducted during the 2025 Crash Day hosted by The Institute Of Traffic Accident Investigators in the United Kingdom in collaboration with Mark Crouch and Stephen Cash of FCIR.
