Operational Media Specialist Forensics
Erin Casey serves as an Operational Media Specialist–Forensics with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Laboratory Division, Forensic Response Section. As the program lead for the FBI Evidence Response Team Terrestrial Laser Scanning Program, she manages nationwide operations supporting 31 teams, overseeing advanced documentation technologies used to capture and preserve complex crime scenes. Her expertise spans terrestrial LiDAR, Total Station surveying, and precision hand-drafted technical diagramming, all integrated to create accurate, scalable 3D digital and physical models for investigative analysis and courtroom presentation.
In her role, Erin develops and maintains the FBI’s training curriculum, certification standards, and Standard Operating Procedures for 3D scanning and modeling, ensuring technical excellence and data integrity across the Bureau’s field operations. She provides direct support to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, combining art, science, and technology to transform complex evidence into clear, defensible visuals for investigators, prosecutors, and juries alike.
Erin’s extensive casework includes support for major national investigations such as the Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting, the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooting, the Nashville Christmas bombing, and the Titanic-Titan submersible documentation. She has also led technical scene documentation for multiple officer-involved shootings, terrorism investigations, and presidential protection events.
