Daniel Attinger

Dr. Technical Sciences

Dr. Daniel Attinger is an engineer with Sc.D. in fluid dynamics from ETH Zurich and over 15 years specializing in bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA). He is owner of Struo LLC (operating as attinger-consulting.com) and Adjunct Lecturer in the Forensic Science Graduate Program at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, where he teaches an annual intensive course on BPA and crime scene reconstruction.


Dr. Attinger is a Full Member of the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts and Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. His forensic training includes bloodstain pattern analysis, wound ballistics, photogrammetry, and LIDAR scanning. As principal investigator on four U.S. federally-funded forensic research projects (totaling over $2M from NIJ, NIST, and ARO) on bloodstain pattern analysis, Dr. Attinger has developed novel methodologies for crime scene reconstruction and created open-source software tools for bloodstain analysis. He has authored 100+ peer-reviewed publications with over 5,500 citations.


Dr. Attinger has provided expert witness services in criminal cases across state and federal jurisdictions, including homicide, assault, and shooting incident reconstruction. He serves on OSAC technical review panels and reviews research articles and proposals for leading funding organizations.
