Carlos Antonio Gutiérrez Ayala

Director and Assistant Professor of Forensic Sciences

Dr. Carlos A. Gutiérrez Ayala is the Director and Assistant Professor of the Forensic Sciences Unit at Chaminade University of Honolulu. He is a Forensic Scientist with over 22 years of experience in the field. Held various positions, including Crime Scene Investigator, Ballistics Expert, Chief of the Forensic Anthropology and Copyright Laboratory, State Forensic Laboratory Deputy Director, State Forensic Laboratory Director, Forensic TV Host and Panelist, Author, International Forensic Consultant, and researcher, among others.


He earned this Philosophical Doctoral degree in Forensic Sciences from the Instituto de Ciencias Jurídicas de Nayarit (Law Science Institute of Nayarit State), Mexico. He also earned a Master of Science in Forensic Sciences from Chaminade University of Honolulu, USA, a Master’s in Educational Management from Universidad Andrés Bello in Chile, and a Master’s in Forensic and Legal Medicine from Tech University in Spain. Additionally, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Public Safety Management from the Escuela de Carabineros de Chile. Dr. Gutiérrez Ayala is a retired Captain of the Chilean National Police, where he served for 18 years. He is a globally recognized forensic expert, having received awards in several countries, and is the author of two books. He has also been a speaker at numerous scientific conferences worldwide.
