Amie Houghton

Forensic Investigations

Amie is a distinguished forensic investigation expert with over 20 years of experience in federal law enforcement and forensic education. She currently serves as Program Director of Forensic Investigations at Utah Valley University, where she teaches courses in forensic science, crime scene reconstruction, pathology, medicolegal death investigations and cold case investigations. She also has mentored students in 3D technologies and virtual reality simulations.


Prior to academia, Amie spent 11 years as a Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), conducting felony-level investigations across the U.S. and overseas, including Afghanistan. Her casework included homicide, suicide, sexual assault, and counterterrorism operations supporting U.S. Naval forces in the Middle East.


In 2013, she joined NCIS’s Office of Forensic Support as a forensic consultant for Marine West, providing expert analysis and training across western U.S. Marine Corps bases. She was promoted in 2015 to Supervisory Special Agent for the Pacific Region, overseeing forensic consultants supporting operations throughout the western U.S. and Far East.
